The win was the stable’s 200 th after commencing back in the 2015/16 season. Some nice symmetry arrived with the milestone with good friends and a hard-
working jockey sharing the moment. Lauren Moor, wife of jockey Daniel owns Moonraker, while Melissa Julius took Moor’s seat in the saddle to land this win.
Julius with 21 wins for the stable is only second behind Declan Bates (32) across the 200 stable successes.
The Warrnambool track was also the scene of the stable’s first win with Jarrah Twist back in 2014, one of the teams 34 wins at the home base. Moonraker has only had three starts for the stable, leading all the way at Ararat to win his Maiden over 1100m with Moor riding back in February before an unplaced effort over the same trip at BM64 level at his next start at Warrnambool.
In complete contrast to his Ararat effort when leading and winning by over four lengths, Julius had to ease back early after being caught wide from her outside gate.
After snagging back to a position with clear air, she still found herself wide and with a horse looking to over-race. It was at this point around the 600m mark, that she went forward and despite the searching run, hit the line full of zest – it was a win full of merit. With eyes firmly fixed on the May Carnival, Moonraker and potentially another handful of runners could find themselves representing the team at our big race week, albeit the weather will play a part in how big the team will be.
Congratulations to Lauren Moor on Moonraker’s good recent form and a big pat on the back to Daniel, Denita and the team over the past ten years – 200 wins is a well- earned milestone.
