Two winners from our last two starters continued a great run of form for Daniel Bowman Racing in 2018. The victories of exciting three-year-old Manhattan Arch at Ararat and tough mare Favonski at Ballarat took the stable’s record to eight winners from our last 36 runners, 15 of which have finished in the top four. In fact, more than 50% of our runners this season have finished top four, with the stable operating at an impressive strike rate of 16% winners from out last 50 runners. Trainer Daniel Bowman credit’s the stable’s impressive recent run as the result of plenty of hard work and a focus on rebuilding and restocking the stable with young and progressive horses. “Last season we had 203 runners for 17 winners where as this season we’ve nearly gone past that amount of winners with 16 winners already from nearly half the number of runners,” Bowman said. “This highlights the stable’s focus on bringing in new stock that can hopefully be competitive at a higher level as the horses mature and develop. “It is our goal to be consistently competitive at metropolitan grade with our horses to try and ensure the best return for our owners.” Manhattan Arch is a particularly exciting horse who will hopefully be destined for a bright future. By Manhattan Rain, he is a son of Group 1 winning mare She’s Archie – who beat all bar arguably Australia’s greatest staying mare in the 2003 Melbourne Cup. With that pedigree in mind combined with the amount of improvement the horse should still have to come, we are looking towards the $300,000 VOBIS Gold 3YO Sires (1600m) at Caulfield in April. “He’s a horse with untapped potential that is only getting to get better with racing,” Bowman said. “He is still very immature mentally but should relish getting out over further as his racing career progresses.” A canny gear change has proven the key to success for bonny mare Favonski (above), with the application of blinkers achieving notable results. After making up for an unlucky run at Warrnambool with a confidence boosting win at Penola, the daughter of Gonski thumped a quality field including multiple city-performed gallopers by four lengths! “She’s been a revelation since we put the blinkers on her,’ Bowman said. “It’s really satisfying to have a mare like her produce a career-peak performance at her ninth start this preparation. “She had her first up run in October last year which highlights the stable’s facilities and ability to keep a horse fresh both physically and mentally.” Both horses are owned and raced by loyal supporters of the stable, the Dunn family. Daniel Bowman Racing is thrilled to have picked up four yearlings from the 2018 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale. The four yearlings - two colts and two fillies - were all bought for different reasons but we believed all were the right horse for the right price. They will hopefully all be a key part of what shapes as an exciting future for the stable as we look to build on our recent run of success. “We are looking to give our owners an opportunity to buy into yearlings that I have personally selected, horses that I want to train and think can be successful on the racetrack,” trainer Daniel Bowman said. “At the end of the day my main aim is to provide each and every owner with the best possible chance to obtain a return on their investment and just as importantly the most enjoyable racing experience.” The first horse we purchased at the sale was a filly by star three-year-old and multiple Group 1 winner Hallowed Crown (left). “This filly caught my eye with her masculine physique and care-free walk,” Bowman said. “She is out of a More Than Ready mare that won three races and has already produced a Stakes winning mare. “She looks to have the right breeding and physique to be a sprinting type.” The second of our purchases is a filly by gun sire Magnus that is a sister to Group 3 winner Magnapal – who has won nearly $500,000 in prize money – and is out a mare that has produced two other Stakes winners. “She has a beautiful, free flowing walk that will develop into a long stride on the racetrack,” Bowman said. “She is well muscled over her hindquarter and with time will develop into a lovely type of horse. “With my knowledge of the family I believe she will race at her best over 1400m+ and she is Super VOBIS qualified which gives us the opportunity to race for richer prize money. “Being from a family full of Black-type, she should have plenty of residual value as a broodmare once she finishes her racing career.” The first of the two colts is by emerging sire Fighting Sun out of the Reset mare Set To Bolt, a half-sister to two Stakes winners including star Kiwi sprinter Volpe Veloce. “He is a very well put together colt that should grow into a very nice racehorse with time,” Bowman said. “This colt is Super VOBIS qualified and is eligible for the new Victorian bonus scheme VOBIS Sires which opens up significant earning potential. “I anticipate him being a three-year-old sprinter and it is our plan to let him grow and develop and have him well educated for when the time comes to hit the big stage.” Last but certainly not least is the colt by exciting sire Better Than Ready out of the Holy Roman Emperor mare Bellanger. “Bellanger comes from a family littered with Black-type winners,” Bowman said. “As soon as I saw this colt I fell in love with him. His deep, rich, black coat and striking resemblance to his father caught my eye. “Being an early foal, he has already developed strong muscle definition through his hindquarter and based on his body type, I envisage him being a powerful speedster and competing in sprint races like his father.” Contact the stable via [email protected] or don't hesitate to give Daniel a call on 0409 807 762 to get involved with any of these purchases. You will have to act fast though, as shares are running out! |
