Excitement Reigns

29/8/2019

Picture
The Memsie Stakes has been won by the likes of Atlantic Jewel, So You Think, Weekend Hussler, Sunline (twice), the Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup champion Galilee, Lord (four times), Rising Fast – the only horse to win the Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate, Melbourne Cup treble in one year, Ajax and Phar Lap in 1931. Our very own Begood Toya Mother will attempt to join this list on Saturday.
Our star gelding will face two past Memsie winners in Humidor and Black Heart Bart, as well as four-time Group 1 winner Hartnell and the star mare of the land Alizee. The field has won about $30 million dollars in combined stakes, and now in what is the just the 2nd Group 1 runner for the Bowman stable, we are mixing it with the best and we are ready to take it right up to them.
Whatever the result, it is thrilling to have a horse good enough to run in this company. We are excited, the horse will run well, and with even luck, we will see if his best is brilliant enough to serve it up to the best horses in the land. Fingers crossed and we hope to see everyone out there for what might be an historic day.

Just like Regal Roller himself

21/8/2019

Begood Toya Mother announced himself as a spring contender on Saturday with a dominant all the way win in the Listed Regal Roller Stakes. Regal Roller was famous for jumping straight to the front, dictating the pace, and winning well. This is exactly what Begood Toya Mother did on Saturday.
From barrier 8, Declan Bates pushed his mount straight to the lead where he maintained a strong gallop. With the passing of each furlong, it looked as if Begood Toya Mother was getting more and more comfortable. In the home straight, several Group performed horses loomed up to beat Begood Toya Mother, but one after the other, the gelding beat them off to win going away by 1.5 lengths.
This race was over the sprint trip of 1200m; however, the way Begood Toya Mother won indicates he will be more than comfortable over a little bit further in the coming weeks. This was the first black-type race this gelding has competed in, and he won with such authority that he now will no doubt be aimed at bigger races in the coming weeks. This also was the first win for the stable in Group or Listed races. The stable certainly has come a long way in our five years of training and to win a race like this, makes it all well worthwhile.
Congratulations to all the owners of this horse. We indeed are on a journey that has a long way to go - but after six wins in a row, we can take a minute to reflect on just how far we have come. Well done also to Declan Bates on the absolute perfect ride. Declan knows this horse so well, and he really gave nothing else in the race a chance. Stay tuned for updates regarding our stable star!

Good Gallop Readies Bowman's Boy

Begood Toya Mother tuned up for Saturday week's Regal Roller Stakes (1200m) with a head-turning exhibition gallop between races at Warrnambool on Thursday.
The emerging son of Myboycharlie sat off stablemate Working From Home in the 1000-metre hit-out before being asked to improve into his work by jockey Declan Bates.
On the line, Begood Toya Mother had almost a length to spare over Working From Home, who was ridden by Harry Coffey.
Trainer Daniel Bowman was delighted with the work and confirmed the plans for Begood Toya Mother to run first-up at Caulfield next week en route to the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clark Stakes (1400m).
"He was really good, He had a good blow afterwards which was what he needed, to step out at the races and get rid of some nervous energy," said Bowman
"He got a bit out of the trial last week but we wanted him to come here and sit off another quality horse and really finish off his work, which he did."
