Not usually one to throw our horses in the deep end after a Maiden victory, it proved to be a smart move with the 3yo Ocean Park gelding defeating his rivals.
Ridden by Harry Coffey, it was his first ride back in the city since the pandemic circumstances enforced him to have a stint on the sidelines. The break from racing hasn't deterred Harry's ambition to get back to the highest level. He rolled across from the outside barrier to sit alongside race favourite Deep Speed. Together they raced neck and neck, before Ocean Beyond was able to kick away and win.
"It's great to see Harry get this opportunity from the owners. I first met Harry when I met my wife Denita at Wycheproof nine years ago, so it's good for him to ride a listed winner for us"
Ocean Beyond was purchased through Waikato Stud after he was passed in from the NZ Ready to Run sales last year.
Ocean Beyond has now headed to the paddock for a freshen up. Hopefully he can come back stronger and tackle some of the richer races in the Autumn.
